I still remember that moment as if it was 3 minutes ago. I was walking down the hill, next to what was known as the most hard core gym in the country. I heard the music blasting from outside the gym walls. The music and the vibe was literally bleeding through the walls and as I walked down the hill, heard the music, felt the energy…. I forgot that my back was feeling strange.
I opened the door and the loud music, sweat and stench in the air hit my face like a ton of bricks. A good ton of bricks, though, the kind of bricks man wishes he could be hit with. I saw men train balls to the wall everywhere my eyes turned.
I heard weights clanking and loud weights being slammed to the floor. It was “Go Time” and I saw no other way then to go to war…. it was leg day. I put my jacket away and made my way to the stationary bike to warm up, right by the gym counter. The music was so loud my ears were ringing but I also had goosebumps because I was feeling super human at the moment, I kid you not. I felt like a machine.
One of the big guys walked by me when I was 3 minutes into riding my bike and said, “Yo, Zach, whatchu trainin’ today?” I answered him with thunder in my voice….. “I’m training legs today and if you wanna train with me you better come correct because I’m CRAZY today!”
He didn’t train with me. I think I scared him off. When the clock hit 5 minutes I began my warm up before attacking the squat rack. I squatted 455 for 6 reps that day. My adrenaline was so high my back musta been communicating with my brain to let me finish this workout.
The workout continued, set after blistering set. Everything around me was a blur, except for the weights that I had in my hands or on my back. I finished with stiff leg deadlifts at 385 lbs for 5 reps.
The workout had finished and I felt I’d had the best damn workout of my life. I walked outside, up the hill, in the cold air. Steam rose from my face in the cold winter night and I hopped in my truck and made the 25 minute trek home.
An hour later I was getting things ready for work the next day. I always ironed my clothes and packed my lunch the day before. I dropped the hanger from my shirt and bent over to pick it up. When I bent over I felt as if I had just been struck by lightening in my lower back.
I was frozen, literally…… I walked backwards while hunched over and felt onto my bed and didn’t move out of my bed till 1 pm the next day.
That was the first time I injured my back…. but not the last. As the years went on, every year out of the blue that back spasm would come back. Not a big deal though, I rested a few weeks and came back slowly. I was young, lived at home with Mom and Dad and life was EASY.
Year after year, the injury happened again…. and again…. and again. But the pain never resonated with me until I was a Dad.
This time, it WAS a BIG deal. You see, I was a Dad, and this back injury was not something I could shake off and rest. I was in excruciating pain while giving my 3 month old daughter a bath. My back was feeling as though it was on fire the entire time I gave her a bath.
I was sweating from the pain. When I finished giving her a bath, I could barely stand up. I mustered all the energy I could and forced my mind to think about Navy SEALs and the pain they could go through yet still be unstoppable. I was pathetic. I felt pathetic. I planted my hands on the bath tub and grinded my way to my knees. From there, I lifted my baby girl up, all 16 lbs of her.
I’ve deadlifted over 500 lbs and squatted 455 for reps. 16 lbs felt like I was lifting the world. Maybe I was….. my daughter IS my world.
My back was screwed up for what seemed to go on forever, in reality, it was 12 months of pain. I called ALL the experts in the strength & conditioning field and asked about recovery, stretches, back rehab, etc.
I was embarrassed and also angry, not just at my self, but at lifting weights in general. As the years went on, every few months, boom, same damn injury. But the injuries didn’t end with back pain, instead, I started getting other injuries. Shoulder injuries, severe knee pain, strange and painful chest pain and pains in areas I never experienced before.
I remember being in Boston on a business trip. Every morning I woke up, dropped and cranked 50 push ups and 50 squats to get my day going. My chest and shoulders felt tight…. abnormally tight. I thought it was the morning tightness one feels after laying in bed for the night. Not so.
A week later I was cranking a simple workout at my gym. The push ups were feeling painful…… a pain I had NEVER experienced before. By the time I got to 23 push ups I was in agonizing pain and had to stop my workout.
I was Ticked OFF! I said “Screw this….. This SUCKS!” I quit my workout. I NEVER quit my workouts. This was getting OLD. I was depressed BIG time and kept it bottled inside…..
I tried to train around these injuries. But the injuries kept messing with me physically AND mentally. My metabolism was slowing down and my stress was on the rise as I couldn’t train the way I wanted to.
I built a grudge against free weights from barbells to dumbbells, when I should have simply realized that my weaknesses were being exploited by the barbell. I began to study bodyweight training more than ever. I decided it was time to rebuild my body and when I want something I go straight to the lead source.
I came across a few guys who not only inspired me to take my bodyweight training to the next level, but they taught me things about bodyweight exercise and bodyweight workouts that I had never thought of.
These guys reminded me of World Renown Powerlifting Coach, Louie Simmons, who operates ‘The Westside Barbell Club’ and is known as the strongest gym in the world.
Louie’s training system transforms men into BEASTS. His lifters make gains unlike anything they’ve ever experienced before. They pack on brute strength and muscle faster than any program they’ve experienced before.
These guys were jacked, ripped and strong as all hell. I was impressed, inspired and willing to test the waters and turn myself into my own human guinea pig.
I connected with some of these “Bodyweight BEASTS” by luck and grilled them on everything that I wanted to benefit from:
They answered EVERYTHING I asked and then some…..
I knew I wanted to take my own personal “Bodyweight Experiment” to a different level than the typical bodyweight circuits everyone else uses. One of my biggest influences has been Louie Simmons and how he uses his methods to build the strongest men in the world….
His methods are known for the shocking development of brute strength, packing on muscle as fast as humanly possible as well as developing explosive power.
I decided my “Bodyweight Experiment” was going to utilize all the techniques of the strongest men in the world so I could go way beyond calisthenics for conditioning. I wanted BEAST mode and nothing less.
I set my goals and organized my training regime into the necessary elements to make these goals happen while getting rid of these lame injuries that kept ruining my life and depressing me.
Like I said before, I was adamant on ensuring this ‘Bodyweight Bodybuilding’ program went waaay beyond the traditional bodyweight workouts. I wanted these bodyweight workouts to produce the same results I would get from my old workouts that comprised of heavy free weight workouts.
The bottom line was that these workouts were going to….
As soon as I began addressing my injuries and following this unique system of ‘Bodyweight Bodybuilding’ the results came way faster than I expected. I thought it was too good to be true. It was SIMPLE. But it was REAL.
I seriously planned on following this “Bodyweight Experiment” for 30 days and then planned on getting back to some heavy lifting. Good ol’ squats, deads and benching.
But I began to get emotionally & spiritually connected to these bodyweight workouts. I know that sounds strange, but after getting injured so much and feeling depressed I felt like I came across a miracle, I kid you not.
Instead of the original 30 day plan, I trained with bodyweight workouts exclusively for just over 3 months. Here and there I jumped in on a workout with my athletes using bodyweight, sandbags and kettlebells, but that was RARE.
One would imagine you would lose lots of size training exclusively bodyweight but this was NOT the case.
“I’m a huge fan of bodyweight training and incorporate it in all of my workouts. Unfortunately, no one has ever put together a fully comprehensive training program based solely on bodyweight exercises that will actually build muscle and help you get stronger… until now.
Zach has filled the void and answered the requests of thousands of trainees out there who want a bad ass bodyweight only program to follow. Follow it to the letter, work your ass off and get jacked.”

“Through my years of experience as a strength coach and athlete I’ve discovered that NOTHING builds a stronger, flatter more functional core than calisthenic and gymnastic workouts.
Zach’s Bodyweight Bodybuilding is a great resource for developing superior core strength while adding lean muscle to your frame using basic, but very challenging, bodyweight workouts.”

“I am reading through Bodyweight Bodybuilding Secrets and Beast interviews now. I am a big fan of bodyweight workouts and blown away by this book.
Zach not only provides daily workouts but shows how to perform the exercises with minimal gear. The Beast interviews are motivating and instructional. I highly recommend this book to all athletes looking to build muscle and gain bodyweight strength.“

“Zach is the real deal. Having known and respected him for years, I was anxious to see what his new Body Weight Bodybuilding system was all about.
After a complete review, I can tell you this: if you’re ready to build muscle, strength and athleticism without the limitations of gyms or equipment, you need to get this system. It’s outstanding!“

From all the bodyweight training my body actually felt like it had a full on pump at all times. It was a shocker to me at first and I started realizing the power of bodyweight training and why these other guys who use bodyweight exclusively look the way they look.
But, even better then feeling tight, strong and athletic, the thing that I was enjoying most was….
The problems that came from lifting heavy all the time were:
When I was lifting heavy I was waking up with:
Like I said before, the pain was affecting me so intensely I was getting depressed. I was lost and didn’t know what to do.
The experts say that our lives are driven by pain. We’re always trying to avoid pain. This is true to an extent. The pain I was avoiding was the emotional pain that came from being unable to play with my kids without pain.
I wanted to throw a Football to my son without pain. I wanted to be able to run at the playground without pain, play Tennis with my daughter without my shoulder nagging me….
I NEVER wanted to be a dead beat Dad who was too much of a meathead and too focused on strength alone when the truth of the matter is, your Health is # 1. Without your health, you have NOTHING.
Back in the day….. I’m talking about the 1940s and 1950s, the magazines had it RIGHT! They called their magazine ‘Strength AND Health’ – You CAN’T have one without the other. I’m a perfect example of what happens when the sole focus is on strength and muscle building.
You turn into a useless piece of junk. You become a mass of useless muscle with more injuries than you can count. It’s pathetic.
The men featured in these Health AND Strength magazines were REAL men. They had the strength to lift 300 lbs from ground to overhead yet they could also perform gymnastics, hand balancing and advanced bodyweight exercises.
They trained for a healthy balance of overall athleticism. As a result, these men demonstrated a rare combination of strength, power, flexibility, speed and lean muscle mass.
Not only were they able to perform and move with grace while lifting heavy weights or performing gymnastics, they also had the type of body that most men today would die to have.
Do YOU need to be able to walk on your hands or lift 300 lbs overhead to build this type of healthy and balanced physique? Hells NO, I am simply proving a point. These men were never walking around beat up and injured.
These men focused on overall health and athleticism and they still ate like MEN.
Steaks, whole eggs, whole milk, butter…. None of this eating like a bird with egg whites and tiny portions that wouldn’t even satisfy a 8 year old boy. They trained like men AND ate like men. You can do the same IF you follow the right program.
Now that I’ve rebuilt my body and recaptured my health I am feeling like a million bucks.
I now utilize both ‘Bodyweight Bodybuilding’ AND heavy lifting together. I no longer experience the aches and pains I once had and my energy is sky high.
I tracked every workout I went through during my 90 day ‘Bodyweight Bodybuilding’ experiment and wrapped it all up for you.
I’ve received countless e-mails from men just like you and me. Beat up, banged up and overall, living with constant pain and not feeling or living 100%, who now want to put those painful days behind and become what a man should become, Strong AND Healthy.
It’s a time I refuse to go back to and a time that I never want to experience again, I’m sure you can relate if you’ve read this far. If you’re a Dad then it hurts even more to feel this way. Nothing sucks more in life than being a Dad with no energy, aches & pains all over and unable to play with your kids.

PS — I’ve made this decision as risk free as possible for you. You’ve literally got nothing to lose. It’s time to man up and be a man of action, a man of conviction. Do what other men won’t do, don’t do and make excuses about. Stand apart and rise above.
PPS — Below are some answers to frequently asked questions, check em’ out if you’re still unsure….
How did you come up with the system behind ‘Bodyweight Bodybuilding’ & why is it so powerful?
After training hard and heavy for over 20 years my body was in break down mode. I was making excuses for being too busy to address my injuries and the throbbing aches and pains. I was waking up with joint pains and going through day after day fighting injuries and not knowing what to do.
I finally took aggressive action and learned how to blend health AND strength together. I learned that being healthy does NOT mean using sissy workouts. I train harder now than I did before, the BIG difference is I also train smarter.
Because I’m a family man and I have tends of thousands of loyal followers of my blog, I listen carefully to what they need and a HUGE request was how to continue to get stronger, pack on lean muscle mass AND stay healthy. I didn’t want other men, especially family men, to experience the pain I went through, so I began my mission to help other men avoid my pain.
Can Athletes Use ‘Bodyweight Bodybuilding’?
That’s a GREAT question and the answer is YES, absolutely. The workouts I prescribe are almost always based around athleticism as I am blending strength, power, functional muscle building and fat loss together.
I’ve used the 5 X 5 + Bodyweight Bodybuilding program on my athletes and they experienced powerful & FAST results with strength & speed gains as well as gains in lean muscle mass.
